<p>I want the urls to be human editable with something present at every level. I forego the usual url post structure for something simpler. In _config.yml I define :</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>permalink: /blog/:categories/:title:output_ext
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>The standard recommendation for Jeykll is to manually write the pages for your categories, I do not want to have to manage keeping those files in sync and adding or removing pages as Categories get updated. Therefor I am using the <a href="https://github.com/zroger/jekyll-categories">‘jekyll-categories’</a> gem.</p>
<p>In _config.yml the category_dir variable needs to be set for this plugin.</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>category_dir: "blog"
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>Gemfile</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>group :jekyll_plugins do
gem "jekyll-categories", "~> 0.0.2"
end
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>then run</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>> bundle
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>Create the post list for each category (_layouts/category__index.html)
This will be used for pages matching /blog/:categories</p>

{% for post in site.categories[page.category] %}
<li><a href="{{ post.url | absolute_url }}">
{{ post.title }}
</a></li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>My top level categories page does not use the plugin. Create a Categories index, categories.html

<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>/Users/username

<p>My current setup After adding Dropbox, dotfiles stored on github, Code, and user level applications folder:</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>/Users/username

</code></pre></div></div>
<p>At present though my Dropbox is a mess of some documents, some code and lots of ebooks. Free Dropbox does not have enough space for me to the entire home directory. Considering a BtSync pro account which allows selective sync. BtSync will allow me to set the root as my home directory and select which folders from that to sync.</p>
<p>I have started using USB flash drives again, and have found <a href="http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison">unison</a> to be a useful tool for syncing local drives to each other.</p>
<p>Me example unison sync (USB drive is called ‘Dropbox’):</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>unison ~/ /Volumes/Dropbox/Unison/ -fat -auto -links true \
-path Code \
-path Documents \
-path Dropbox
#-fat Work With FAT filesystem (ThumbDrive)
#-auto Accept default action for non-merges
#-links true follow symlinks
</code></pre></div></div>
<p>Now that the ‘Dropbox’ root is my home directory I can reorganise. Books should become a top level folder, and share a place along side Music and Movies.</p>
<p>Dropbox is kept but mainly used for sharing temporary files with others.</p>
<div class="language-plaintext highlighter-rouge"><div class="highlight"><pre class="highlight"><code>/Users/username
