Using a framing nailer
A framing nailer drives long, thick nails into structural timber. It suits stud walls, joists, rafters, fence rails and timber frames. This model runs on an 18V battery alone, with no compressor, hose or gas cartridge, so the tool moves around a site or garden without set-up time.
Treated timber needs the right nail. The copper in the preservative corrodes the zinc plating on standard galvanised nails. The nails then rust and lose their grip. Use stainless steel, hot-dip galvanised or extra-galvanised nails in treated timber, and choose stainless steel for exposed decking, fencing and coastal sites.
